First Chapter Review and Giveaway: Tickling Daphne H. by Veronica Frances

I received the first chapter of Tickling Daphne H. from the author through Pump Up Your Book. This is an erotic romance.

BLURB:  Tickling Daphne H. follows the ticklish journeys of Daphne, Dave, Carol and Harold, exploring how tickling deeply affects the lives of these four people.

The story deals with the many different faces of tickling; the addictive and torturous, the pleasurable and erotic and the humorous and romantic.

This is the very unusual love story of Daphne and Dave, two people facing their tickle-demons together. It is primarily the journey of Daphne, a 21-year-old very ticklish woman. Daphne finds herself in a world where every important person in her life has a tickling fetish, including her boyfriend Dave. She finds herself constantly surrounded by feathers and wiggling fingers, unable to escape the taunting sounds of her own laughter. She is also unable to escape her own mixed-up feelings about tickling.

As Daphne’s relationship with Dave grows, she must learn to face her fears and deeper feelings about tickling, for the sake of their relationship and herself.

COVER: Simple, but I like it. The feather is a nice touch. I like the rounded font, too. It gives it a light feel.

FIRST CHAPTER: Daphne is up in her bedroom after another fight with her boyfriend, Dave. She's a very ticklish girl and she doesn't want Dave to know how much it turns her on when he tickles her. They have decided they will wait before being intimate, so she keeps him at arm's length as much as she can. Dave is understandably disappointed, especially because he has a tickling fetish and wishes to explore it with the woman he loves.

It is the night of Daphne's 21st birthday party, and her stepmother Carol wants Daphne to attend after all the money she and her husband have invested in the preparations. A determined woman, Carol isn't about to let Daphne's fight with Dave ruin everything.

KEEP READING: I'm afraid not. The writing style of Tickling Daphne H. isn't my favorite. While I believe the story has potential, the characters don't seem real to me and there is more telling than showing going on. Daphne is twenty-one going on three--though her extreme immaturity could be a result of a domineering stepmother; each of the main characters has a tickling fetish; and the father actually talks about how ticklish his daughter is to her boyfriend and encourages Dave to share more details with him about their relationship. The father, Harold, doesn't fully come across as a concerned father. His level of interest is a bit too much.

Author Veronica Frances was wise to keep the first chapter limited to the evening before the party, because a fair amount of information is revealed in this opener. By the time I was done, I was wondering how this plot would continue for another 400+ pages. I also would have expected a lighter tone to the story based upon its content. I was thinking more of an erotic chick lit type of story. With a more solid plot and the lessening of some tension, my opinion might change.

I encourage you to check out the glowing reviews on other sites and see what you think.
