The LOVE IS IN THE AIR BLOG HOP is sponsored by Under The Covers Book Blog. I'm excited to be taking part of this giveaway hop. One of the reasons I started this blog is because I wanted a place to share only romance novels and novellas. My main blog is an eclectic mix of genres, but considering the popularity of the romance genre, it deserves its own.
The other reason I started A Little Bit of Spice is because MuseItUp Publishing, owned and operated by my mentor Lea Schizas, has an adult line of books--MuseItHot. I am always eager to promote authors, especially since I am one. If you have a book you would like promoted here, please check out my guest post, spotlight, and First Chapter Review policies.
To celebrate the month of love, I'm giving away a $25 gift certificate to MuseItUp Publishing's website. This is an international giveaway. Please enjoy my First Chapter Review of Gladiator by Kate Lynd. This, and more than 100 other adult books are available on the MuseItUp Publishing website.
Gladiator by Kate Lynd is a post apocalyptic erotic romance. I picked it up for FREE for my Kindle in September.
Tristan Shane was a moderate before the nuclear and economic crisis which plunged the world into darkness. While his sister Aidia ran off to fight the rebel’s war he desperately tried to hang onto normalcy and lost his wife and children in the process. Spending the next ten years as the Crown’s favored and the mob’s favorite Gladiator, he never expects to meet the Queen’s sister, Alexandra, a Healer.
She claims to be the much whispered about Savior sent to heal the wounded Earth and oceans, the one who would bring about her cruel sister’s dethroning. But is she? Or is she just a fraud? But he quickly learns her erotic touch has the power to heal his heart and his to save her life. But as the passion heightens and the danger increases will they have forever or will he have to give up everything to save the planet?
COVER: This is a superb cover. It captures a main character and the setting all in one. When I first glanced at it, I didn't realize the lower half is a building. It looked a bit like armor to me. Very unique.
FIRST CHAPTER: Tristan Shane has lost his family after the economic collapse of the Untied States. Enslaved as a gladiator who is also a plaything for Veronica, Queen of the States, he's never felt lower. But after his most recent battle, the queen wants a different kind of favor. Veronica wants him to discover if the young Alexandra is a mythical Healer: the one meant to find her soul mate, so they can lead the Nation out of the darkness. And if she is, Tristan must kill her.
KEEP READING: I'll be honest, this isn't my usual reading fare. If it wasn't free, I probably wouldn't have bothered. And that's too bad, because it looks like it will be a fabulous story. Tristan is a sympathetic character from the start. His family is dead and he's used as a source of sick pleasure for the Queen and the mob.
Lynd creates great tension right away, opening with Tristan being led back to his cell after his most recent battle, and quickly bringing him face-to-face with Veronica. But once Alexandra enters the picture the mood changes a bit. Lynd does it so seamlessly that while you feel it, you aren't pulled away or distracted by it. A different kind of tension replaces the first, one of wonder at this young girl filled with fear and anger.
I definitely want to see how this one plays out.
